Take Care of Your Natural Surroundings

When you are camping in National Parks, take care of the natural surroundings. Leave only footprints and take photos while following these suggestions.

• Take all your rubbish out with you when you leave. Take plastic bags, then dispose of the rubbish in supplied rubbish bins as soon as possible.
• When nature calls, use a toilet if available, otherwise dig a deep hole away from the campsite and water supply and bury human waste and toilet paper.
• When you are washing the dishes and yourself, keep away from water sources so the water source is not polluted. Use biodegradable detergent if possible.
• Campfires may only be made in fire pits that have been supplied. Check your camping info or ask the Park Ranger to make sure you are allowed to have a campfire. Never collect firewood from inside the park. You are usually asked to bring it in from outside the perimeter of the National Park.
• Don’t feed the wildlife and don’t leave any food around your camp that they can scavenge. If you are leaving your camp, put all food or bait in your vehicle, tent or in a secure container. When we stayed on Fraser Island we found out that the dingoes can open eskies and they like stinky fish bait.
• When driving or walking in a National Park, stay on the tracks or roads provided. Don’t make your own tracks and only camp where permitted.
• Consider other campers. Do not make excessive noise and drive slowly and carefully.
• During our camping trips, we have stayed at many National Parks such as Fraser Island and Kakadu. They are very special and need to be treasured so that many more generations can enjoy them, including for camping.

National Parks are amazing destinations to camp at, beautiful scenery where ever you look, take care so everyone can enjoy them for many years into the future.
